This Top 10 food to Eat in Georgetown is also recognize by Penang Tourism. As I said in Georgetown, Penang, Penang island is rich in different ethnic culinary arts. In Malaysia, you might found similarity food as in China and Indian, and you will also impressing by the local Malay food.

1. Nasi Kandar


The famous street of Nasi Kandar Malaysia is all in Chulia Street. Chulia Street is a Nasi Kandar heaven, and you might need to queue to get a dish of Nasi Kandar for 15 minutes. Nasi Kandar is a self-service system, you pick your dish, you pay, and you eat.

The rate of one Nasi Kandar is fix by each restaurant and the dish that you pick. My suggestion is not to take so much seafood like prawn,fish and jellyfish because it will cost you so much.




2. Penang Asam Laksa

Penang Asam Laksa is a sour, fish-based soup. It is listed at number 7 on World's 50 most delicious foods complied by CNN Go in 2011. The main ingredients for asam laksa include shredded fish, finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillies, pineapple, lettuce, common mint. Vietnamese mint, pink ginger buds and topping of sweet prawn paste.

A bowl of Asam Laksa is around RM 3 - RM 4.

- Wet Market of Ayer Itam (afternoon until 7pm evening)

3. Char Koay Teow



This dish is commonly stir-fired with egg, prawn, oyster and slices of Chinese sausage and fishcake with Koay Teow. Koay Teow is something Chinese's noodles which also name strip rice cake.

The normal price of Char Koay Teow would be at RM 3 - RM 5, but some famous Char Koay Teow stall might sell their food up to RM 8 - RM 10.00.

4. Hokkien Mee

Te Penang version of this dish is craved by many including those who do not hail from the state. The yellow noodle cooked in tasty prawn soup is definitely a local favorite.

5. Nyonya dish, deserts and kuih

The Nyonya community's cooking skills are legendary. Infused with herbs and spices, the dishes are a prefect accompaniment to steaming white rice while the desserts are local cakes (kuih) are a sight to behold with their unique soft texture and colorful appearance.

A delicious mix fruit such pineapple, pomegranate, mango, cucumber, cucumber, water apples, cuttlefish with a local prawn paste dressing. It also call as Malaysia salad.

Price of Rojak is about RM 3 - RM 5 per dish.

7. Bukit Tambun Seafood

Bukit Tambun on the main land is a fishing village. The local is legendary in cooking seafood. They are succulent prawns, tasty crabs and variety of seafood without burning your pocket much.

8. Pasembur

9. Eurasian Food



Sourcing for authentic Eurasian cuisine maybe a bit of a challenge because the community is dwindling a number. However, the Little Penang Street Market at Upper Penang (only on the last Sunday of the month) and a small Eurasian restaurant tucked away along Kelawai Road serve very good Eurasian specialties. Among the popular dishes are the Debel Curry, sweetmeat, roasts, patties, spicy Mulligatawny Soup, kedgerees, stews and pies.




10. Bak Kut Teh

Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese culinary arts, Bak Kut means pork ribs and Teh means Tea. Bak Kut Teh hawker is selling every parts of porks and rice. It is nothing beats a steaming hot bowl of Bak Kut Teh.
